THE JOHNNY CASH 80TH BIRTHDAY BASH STARRING
ALEX BATTLES & THE WHISKY REBELLION Friday, February 24, 2012, At San Quentin, Bell House Saturday, February 25, 2012, At Folsom Prison, Littlefield The Johnny Cash 80th Birthday Bash will return to Brooklyn on February 24 (at Bell House) and February 25 (at Littlefield). Doors for both nights are at 8pm and music will start at 9pm. This show has sold out every year since its inception so advance tickets are a must. (Bell House ticket link, Littlefield ticket link) For 8 years, Alex Battles his band the Whisky Rebellion have presented a sold out Johnny Cash Birthday Bash in Brooklyn. This year's show is the first two night affair, with Battles and his band performing the legendary "At San Quentin" concert at Bell House on Friday, February 24 and the "At Folsom Prison" concert at Littlefield on Saturday, February 25. Each evening begins with a classic Cash film. The film "Johnny Cash in San Quentin" will be shown as doors open on Friday. The film "Five Minutes to Live" (Johnny Cash's first starring role, 1961) will be shown as doors open on Saturday. This year's stage will feature an large original mural (attached) by Gowanus-based photorealist painter, LJ Lindhurst. Prints of this mural will be available for purchase from the artist at the show. DJs from the WKCR American Department will play classic country throughout the evening at both nights. Battles's band features the guitar work of Vincent "The Old Perfesser" Sbano, a train driver for the New York City subway and Luther Perkins devotee. Other special guests for the evening include Jack Grace and Lindy Loo. Alex Battles is the creator of the Brooklyn Country Music Festival, the Johnny Cash Birthday Bash, and the CasHank Hootenanny Jamboree. In 2011, he released four albums of original music on iTunes.
