Your life’s been a hoot, good and bad, right? And, have you ever had a desire to write down – and maybe even make sense of it – some of the more interesting times of your life, your ‘memoirs,’ as it were?
Now’s your chance: Donna Minkowitz, who’s taught memoir writing and creative non-fiction since 1998 at locales like the 92th Street Y and the World Fellowship Center, will be offering an eight-week course on the craft of writing memoirs, starting February 8th, with a focus on utilizing emotion and sensory details inherent in any autobiographical task.
Ms. Minkowitz’s personal achievements include her own memoir, Ferocious Romance, which was awarded an award for “the most promising and distinctive work by a new author.” Additionally, she was a columnist for the ‘Village Voice’ for eight years, and her articles have appeared in ‘The New York Times Book Review’, ‘New York Magazine’, and ‘Salon.’ She’s been a guest on ‘The Charlie Rose Show’, and on National Public Radio frequently.
Class information: Sunset Park location [short trip on the R train from Park Slope]; students at all levels welcome; 8 two-hour classes, Feb 8 through March 28, 7-9 pm. Cost: $300
If you’d like more information and/or to sign up, contact Donna at minkowitz@earthlink.net. A sample of her work, the first chapter of her second memoir, can be found at: donnaminkowitz.wordpress.net. |
