Located in an expansive 5,550 square foot, 150-seat space encompassing three storefronts at 256 Fifth Avenue (between Carroll and Garfield), Fornino Park Slope is about good food and good feelings. It’s a true neighborhood restaurant, run by the locals for the locals and featuring an eclectic Italian menu that is relaxed, reasonably priced and seasonally driven. Fornino Park Slope showcases a wide range of house-made and homegrown ingredients including fresh mozzarella, artisanal pasta and fresh-picked organic herbs and vegetables.
Fornino Park Slope uses only certified organic white and whole-wheat flours, San Marzano Italian tomatoes and the finest imported & domestic cheeses. Our pizzas are grilled, thin and crispy with toppings that include House-made Mozzarella, Sopressata Napoletana and Chanterelle Mushrooms along with a bevy of market-fresh ingredients. Our commitment to quality ingredients is second to none, and you can taste the difference.
Fornino Park Slope is owned & operated by fellow Brooklynites Chris Walsh, Frank Ayoub and David Kearns, who between them have over 80 years experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry.
Director of operations/owner Christopher Walsh is a veteran culinary pioneer who was instrumental in starting the boom in the Meatpacking District with the highly successful ONE/Manhattan, STK and TenJune. Prior to that, Chris was owner/operator of Scopa in midtown and started his first business ventures right here in Brooklyn including an earlier Park Slope pizzeria, Lento’s.
Like his partners, general manager/owner David Kearns is a “restaurant lifer” who has worked in almost every capacity since his restaurant career began at age 17. Whether managing takeout counters or 300 seat dining rooms, Kearns has conscientiously endeavored to gain the right knowledge from each experience along the way including such varied establishments as Houlihan’s, Felidia, Judson Grill, Guastavino’s and Porter House New York and now brings that expertise to Fornino Park Slope.
A consummate food service professional, facilities director/owner Frank Ayoub has honed over 20 years experience at some of NYC’s premier restaurants including The Post House, One CPS in the Plaza Hotel, Smith & Wollensky Group and STK, allowing him to design and implement food quality standards and costs with a highly trained eye. As well as his executive steward experience, Frank also held a long-term role as executive banquet chef at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.
The space, created by local interior design firm Revamp, draws inspiration from 1930s Brooklyn, showcasing dark mahogany wood, exposed brick, large-filament hanging light bulbs, distressed wooden floors, tabletops overlaid with a decoupage of authentic newspapers from the era and walls accented with old black-and-white photographs of the borough. In keeping with the Depression-era chic aesthetic, the restaurant’s 40-foot bar is made from hand-cut marble reclaimed from a defunct Wall Street business building.
The perfect place to gather with friends, family and co-workers for any type of celebration, Fornino hosts private parties with broad catering menu choices designed to meet any price range. The restaurant offers its full menu for take-out and delivery and also has an on-premise store in which house-made sauces, cheeses and fresh pastas are available for purchase. It features an area where fully cooked grab-and-go meals such as roasted meats and baked pasta can be purchased—perfect for patrons on-the-go or those just needing a delectable, fresh meal for dinner at home with family.
